‘The Body Issue’ was created as a response to an issue I read of British Vogue. I felt disappointed by the ostentatiousness and lack of accessibility that emanated from its pages. There has been a long overdue shift in attitudes to diversity in the fashion industry. However, the majority of these images still centre on a particular ‘type’ of female body – one that is anything but all-encompassing. Exhibit A:
In response, I created this collection as a way to rethink how we see and respond to the female body within the pages of fashion magazines such as British Vogue.
I want to challenge our expectations of the female model by looking beneath the latest cut of trousers or neckline of jumper, instead appreciating what is often hidden or shamed.

The female form isn’t appreciated nearly enough; with this collection I aim to remove the conservatism generally associated with the naked body in order to reclaim its power.

There is a disconnect between what people say they are doing, and what they’re actually doing – Vogue is a prime example of this. There are magazines out there, like i-D and Dazed, that are reshaping how we look at and think about women. However, for industry-wide change to happen, mainstream powerhouses need to be onboard.
